Wesley E. Soyster, 80, Altoona, died Sunday afternoon at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late William A. and Vivian (Dunn) Soyster. He married Barbara J. Gensamer on Oct. 31, 1959, in Mercersburg.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years; a son, Wesley A. (Teri) of Wexford; two grandsons: Luke and Trent; a sister, Mona (Don) Daugherty of Chambersburg; two sisters-in-law: Cindy Cornmesser of Bellwood and Dorothy Gensamer in New Mexico; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Olewine.
Wesley was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean conflict. He retired in 1989 as a customer service representative with Peoples Natural Gas, Altoona, after 35 years of service. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bellwood, and Hiram Lodge 616, F&AM.
Wesley enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling and was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
A celebration of Wesley's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church Bellwood, the Rev. T.M. Talbot-Moses officiating.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bellwood.
