Charles S. Grassmyer Sr., 70, Pinecroft, Altoona, died early Saturday morning at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Clarence and Emily (Stiver) Grassmyer. He was happily married to Ella Zitsch for 51 years.
Surviving are his wife, Ella; a daughter, Elaine Pfahler (Mark) of Pinecroft; a daughter, Theresa Blunk (William "Butch") of Brooksville, Fla.; a daughter, Sally Garman (Patrick) of Altoona; a daughter, Sharon Burgoon (Ray) of Duncansville; a son, Charles "Junior" Grassmyer Jr. of Pinecroft; nine grandchildren: April, Alycia, Ricky, Krystal, Tiffany, Christine, Shawn, Scott and Dalton; seven great-grandchildren: Ethan, Nathan, Brendan, Cameron, Kinsley, Adalyn and Bailey; a brother, Glen (Julie) of Tyrone; a brother, Russell (Ann) of Duncansville; a brother, Melvin (Barb) of Pinecroft; a brother, Jesse (Doris) of Altoona; and his dog, Sophia.
Charles was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Jr. "Bud"; a brother, John; a sister, Geraldine; a brother, Samuel "Sonny"; a brother, Paul; and his dog, Genny.
Mr. Grassmyer attended Pinecroft United Methodist Church.
He was employed as head spring man for Penn Public for 46 years.
Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, deer processing, football and sitting on his front porch watching the deer and turkey.
He was a life member of the Pinecroft Volunteer Fire Company.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with the Rev. Jennifer Kauffman officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
