Dr. Michael J. Rizzo, 48, Flinton, passed away Sunday at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, after complications from a stroke.
He was born in Spangler, son of Florence T. (Mietus) Rizzo and the late Dr. Victor F. Rizzo.
Surviving are his mother; 10 siblings: Dr. Victor J. of Altoona, Julie A. (Mark) Eckenrode of Ebensburg, Gary L. of Boca Raton, Fla., Maria (Rob) Pierce of Muncy, Lisa T. of Delray Beach, Fla., Dr. John M. of Ebensburg, Father David R. of Altoona, Cathy A. of Boca Raton, Dr. Theresa M. (Dr. R.J.) Harris of Barboursville, W.Va., and Anthony J. of Boca Raton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul F.
Michael was a graduate of Penn State University and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He played rugby at Penn State and attended Palmer College on a rugby scholarship. Dr. Rizzo had a great love for chiropractic care and formerly had chiropractic offices in Patton, Johnstown and Altoona. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton, and St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, Coalport.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Stevens Funeral Home Inc., 1004 Fifth Ave., Patton, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton, by Benedictine Fathers. Committal will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
