Duane Glenn Lewis 82, Deer Lodge Circle, Hagerstown, Md., formerly of Cresson, died Wednesday at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va. He was born in Portage, son of the late Harry E. and Anna Beatrice (Wilson) Lewis.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Rita M. Dougherty, whom he married Feb. 11, 1956, in Washington D.C.; three daughters: Catherine Clark (Gary) of Hagerstown, Md., Colleen L. Zamora of Conner, Texas, and Rita M. Lewis of Martinsburg, W.V.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, including granddaughter Angela Duncan who was raised in Duane and Rita's home; four siblings: Thomas E. (Estelle Harwell) in Tennessee, Beverly Yarnish (Joe) and Nancy Eckenrode (Chad), both of Cresson, Harry E. "Bud" (Selma Kirsch) of rural Gallitzin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne Marie Lewis; a granddaughter, Angela Marie Boone; a brother, Jack; and two sisters: Marlene Lewis and Janet Fara.
Duane served as a corporal in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He worked as a spray painter in construction, pumped gas for Sunoco in Washington D.C., drove a Mr. Softy ice cream truck in Washington D.C., worked for Ideal Buick in Frederick, Md., and worked for Black and Decker Outlet Store in Hagerstown, Md.
A member of Cresson American Legion, Duane enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, golfing and camping.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville. Committal will be at Amsbry Union Cemetery. Military Rites are in charge of Cresson American Legion and other local Military Organizations.
