The Rev. Henry L. Joly, 83, Hollidaysburg, died Friday morning at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.
He was born in Athol, Mass., one of 17 children to bless William Charles and Diana (Savoie) Joly.
Surviving are a sister, Vicky Janik of Athol, Mass.; and three brothers: Francis and Robert, both of Athol, and Omer John of Lompoc, Calif.
The Rev. Joly was a 1948 graduate of Assumption Preparatory School, Worcester, Mass., and received a B.A. from Assumption in 1954, an S.T.B. from Catholic University of Paris in 1958 and an M.A. from Anna Maria College, Worcester, in 1977. He was ordained on March 22, 1958, in Lormoy (STO), France.
He was a member of the Augustinians of the Assumption from 1949-61 and served as a priest in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown from 1961 to the present; pastor of St. Michael Parish, West Salisbury, from 1977-81; pastor of Holy Family Church, Colver, from 1981-88; pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Brownstown, from 1988-89; and pastor of St. Thomas More Church, Roaring Spring, from 1989-95. He retired June 25, 1995.
The Rev. Joly served as a chaplain and captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1969-72 and received the National Defense Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at St. Mary Church by Bishop Mark Bartchak, celebrant, and the Rev. Angelo Patti, homilist. Committal will be at St. Anne's Cemetery, Sturbridge, Mass.
