Edward M. DiBonto, 78, Altoona, passed away Thursday at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.
He was born in Gallitzin, son of Michael and Catherine (Buzzella) DiBonto, and he was married to the late Catherine Feathers.
Surviving are a sister, Elizabeth (Sam) DeGol of Altoona; a brother-in-law, Nunzio Quintilli; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was cared for by his special niece, Barbara and husband, Joseph Francis.
He was preceded in death by four sisters: Gilda DiBonto, Mary Quintilli, Antonia Bernazzoli and Leona Leap; and two brothers: Camillo and Mario DiBonto.
Eddie worked for the Altoona Shoe Co. and retired with 30 years of dedicated service from the Van Zandt VA Medical Center in the Environmental Services Department. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where he enjoyed volunteering during the funeral lunch gatherings.
Eddie also enjoyed playing softball for the Gallitzin Italian Mutual Society and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, by the Rev. Brian Saylor. Committal will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Cresson.
In memory of Eddie, contributions may be given to St. Rose of Lima Church.
