I get a kick out of the two gentlemen campaigning against Congressman Bill Shuster who are debating their Pennsylvania roots - or lack thereof.
On one hand, you have Art Halvorson, who moved to Pennsylvania a few years ago and claims his wife's ties to the area as his own.
The other candidate believes he's qualified for the job because his family name has been in the area since the Revolutionary War.
I hate to break it to you, but if PA roots is the deciding factor for who should represent PA's 9th Congressional District, then Shuster has them both beat, even if their histories were combined.
Bill Shuster was born, raised, educated, owned a small business and raised a family here in Pennsylvania, and his ancestors have been here even before the Revolutionary War. In fact Shuster's relatives came to Western PA in the 1700s.
But even with all of that said, true Pennsylvanians know this race is not about ancient history, it's about the future.
Central Pennsylvanians will agree that we need proven conservative leadership to represent us in Washington to continue to fight the Obama administration's overreaching liberal agenda.
Shuster knows his roots, and he continues to give our values a voice in Washington, fighting for what central Pennsylvanians need. He has an A-plus lifetime rating from the NRA, 100 percent pro-life voting record and a 91 percent rating from the American Conservative Union.
That is the kind of representation I want in Congress.
