Harold E. Wagner, 92, Vermilion, Ohio, formerly of Bellwood, died Monday morning at Kingston of Vermilion.
He was born in Williamsburg, son of the late Harry F. and Mamie (Parks) Wagner. He married Betty Jane Holsinger on Nov. 15, 1944, in Williamsburg, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1998.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Barbara of Huron, Ohio; a son, Jerry K. and wife, Irene, of Boise, Idaho; three grandchildren: David, Emilee and Sean; and a sister, Jean Noland of Alliance, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey K.; a sister, Gladys McConahy; and a brother, Marion.
Harold was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WWII. He graduated from Penn State University in 1950 with a B.S. in education and in 1953 with a master of education. He began his teaching career in Towanda in 1950. He started with Bellwood-Antis School District as an industrial arts teacher in 1951, later becoming principal in 1960. He retired in September 1984. He served on the Bellwood-Antis School Board of Directors from 1985-93.
Harold was a member of Bellwood Church of the Brethren, where he held several volunteer positions. He was a member of several organizations, including the VFW, American Legion and Fraternal Order of Free and Accepted Masons. He also volunteered his time with Meals on Wheels for several years.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Bellwood Church of the Brethren, Pastor Rod Thomas officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Bellwood Church of the Brethren.
