CPA season going on sale
UNIVERSITY PARK - Tickets for the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State's 2013-2014 season of 28 music, theater and dance presentations go on sale Aug. 12 to the general public.

* Cirque Iloize in "Cirkopolis";
* The Yamato drummers of Japan;
* Singer-songwriters Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin together for an acoustic evening;
* Moscow Festival Ballet in "Swan Lake";
* Two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster in concert;
* Trumpeter Doc Severinsen and His Big Band;
* Vienna Concert-Verein Orchestra with pianist Sebastian Knauer.

Tickets for the performances - on stage from September through April 2014 at Eisenhower and Schwab auditoriums and Pasquerilla Spiritual Center - will be available online at www.cpa.psu.edu; by phone at 863-0255 or 800-ARTS-TIX; and in person at Eisenhower (open weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Penn State Downtown Theatre Center (weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and the Bryce Jordan Center (weekdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
Tickets will also be on sale for two Penn State School of Music featured concerts.
Hollywood hits to be played
JOHNSTOWN - "Love in Hollywood: The Concert" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, 450 Schoolhouse Road, Johnstown.
Max Fedore of Johnstown, who put together the show of music from iconic Hollywood films, calls it a powerful clash of classic and modern music.
Fedore, a classically trained tenor who is pursuing a career in the film industry, will perform in the concert. Other performers are: Emily Felton, a junior at University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown:
The concert's band is comprised of Dan Philibin, a web developer from Richmond, Va., on piano, Nathan Santos, director of Commercial Music at Tiffin University, Ohio, on bass, Michael Bodolosky, a jazz musician and educator, on drums and Brady Amerson of Butler, a freelance musician and educator, on saxophone.

Charlie Daniels to perform
GREENSBURG - Grammy, Dove and CMA Award-winning group The Charlie Daniels Band will perform at 8 p.m. Aug. 16 at The Palace Theatre.
Daniels has been a success in both the country and gospel worlds, and his signature song, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," won a Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979, as well as single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards.

ACT auditions for 'Barefoot'
Altoona Community Theatre will hold auditions for the Neil Simon comedy "Barefoot in the Park" at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the Blair County Arts Foundation office, located at 1212 12th Avenue beside the Mishler Theatre.
The show will open ACT's 2013-2014 season with performances Sept. 19 to 21. Needed are one female in her early 20s to play a bubbly young bride; one male in his mid 20s to play a young, stuffed-shirt lawyer; one mature female to play the bride's mother, and three mature males of any age to play the comic roles of an eccentric neighbor, a telephone repair man and a UPS delivery man.
Auditions are open to anyone, regardless of previous experience or past participation with ACT. Volunteers also are needed for backstage crews.
