Covering the bases

August 1, 2013
The Altoona Mirror

LEADING OFF: July is over, but Curve fans are hoping that how Alex Dickerson hit in the month isn't. Dickerson finished the month of July, hitting .413, driving in 27 runs and six hits. "We know he hits the ball," Curve manager Carlos Garcia said. "He was the player of the year in the Florida State League, and right now he is going towards the same direction. We know he is a player that can be an impact player in Pittsburgh."

SAFE AT FIRST: It was only fitting that Dickerson would pick up one more RBI in the final game of the month, the game-winning in Wednesday night's game. He finished the game 1-for-4.

STEALING SECOND: SS Alen Hanson picked up his first hit in his Double-A career on Wednesday, a single in the eighth inning. He then scored the tying run. Hanson had gone 0-for-5 in his debut and started Wednesday's game 0-for-3. He struck out twice on Wednesday and finished the game 1-for-4.

ROUNDING THIRD: Former Curve INF Chase d'Arnaud's brother, Travis, was with the B-Mets on a rehab assignment, catching. He went 0-for-4 in the game.

HEADING HOME: CF Gregory Polanco was the only Curve player to collect two or more hits on Thursday.
