R. James Hiquet, 71, Newry, died Tuesday evening at Pennknoll Village, Everett.
He was born in Langendale, Bedford County, son of Rene R. and Annamary (Conley) Hiquet. He was united in marriage to Judy K. Gibson on May 19, 1962, in Dudley.
Surviving are his wife, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage; a daughter, Thressa M. Albright and husband, George, of Newry; two sons: Robert J. and Michael J.; three grandsons: Alan James, John Robert and Michael James Jr.; and two sisters: Geraldine Roberts of Saxton and Renee Putt of Broad Top City.
Jim was a 1961 graduate of Saxton Liberty High School. He retired as a grinder from Containment Solutions, Mount Union. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Dudley, and attended St. Patrick's Church, Newry.
Jim also belonged to Woodbury Lodge 539, F&AM, and Valley of Altoona, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, and was a former member of the Jaffa Shrine and past president of United Mine Workers of America District 2 Local Union 1368, Ebensburg. He enjoyed life to the fullest, helping others, hunting, fishing and gardening.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:45 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at St. Patrick's Church, Newry, by Father Allen P. Zeth. Committal will be at Ave Maria Catholic Cemetery, Huntingdon County.
