John J. Sinisi Sr., 80, Altoona, died Thursday at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Donato and Anna (Martino) Sinisi. He married Nelda Davis on Oct. 26, 1957, in Hollidaysburg.
Surviving are his wife; two sons: John J. Jr. (Nancy) and David P. (Dawna); four grandchildren: Bill, Patrick, Amanda and Kristen; three siblings: James (Barbara), Albert and Carmela Marin (James), all of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers: Michael, Americo, Henry, George and Tony; and a sister, Helen.
John was a graduate of Altoona High School and attended Penn State University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He had worked at ACME Markets for 19 years and had retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
John was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where he was president of the Holy Name Society and a member of Our Lady of the Angels Regional Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order as well as Family Life. He also was an extraordinary minister, lector, server and usher and led the rosary. He was also a member of the Legion of Mary and American Legion Post No. 827 and lifetime member of the UVA.
John enjoyed spending time with his family.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
