DeStefano wins playoff to capture Summit title

CRESSON - Steve DeStefano won the championship flight of the Summit Country Club's Match Play Club Championship in an extra hole over Dave DeGol Jr.

Tony Mignogna won the first flight, while Rick Holtz was second. Gary Naugle took the second flight, while Larry Benton was second. Marty Finklestine captured the third flight, while Adam Rabatin was second.

Bob Ruggiero won the fourth flight, while Charlie Horten was second. Alfred Eger took the fifth flight, while Vic Mastalski was second.

Anita Jo Petrusky captured the women's division championship flight, while Lu Ann Dividock was second. Maddie Krug won the first flight, while Carrie Fogel was second.

Rich Bernazzoli, Greg Beals and T.J. Kakabar carded a 57 to win Sunday's championship flight of the Portage/Rotary Day Benefit Outing three-player scramble. Ben Shope, Kevin Zock and Joe Ostinowsky won the first flight with a 61. Dividock, Jessica Kline and Kate Conway won the Ladies Division with a 62.

Skill prize winners were Carlos Gunby (closest second shot on 2), Ty Conrad (closest tee shot on 4), Don Squillario (closest second shot on 6), Shope (closest tee shot on 8), Denny Squillario (long putt on 9), Tom Semancik (closest second shot on 10), Zeke Claar (closest tee shot on 12), Rob Heinrich (long putt on 13), Bezel Squillario (long putt on 15) and Ralph Lewis (closest second shot on 17).

James Repko, Dick Cox, Ryan McMahon and Ken Grundling scored a 62 and won a card-off against against two other teams to win the Shine's Open-Father's Memorial Scholarship Fund Benefit Outing on Saturday.

Vaughn Lewis, Vic Mastalski, Pat Albright and Michael Stoczkol finished second, while Ken Fisher, Bill Savin, Robert Bernhard and Rick Filak placed third.

US Amateur Qualifier

EVERETT - Altoona's Artie Fink carded a 138 to win the U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifier at Down River Golf Course by two strokes over Jeannette's Nicholas Milito and Lancaster's David Denlinger, both of whom had 140s.

Other area golfers following Fink were Everett's Tracey Smith (147), Altoona's Jimmy Ferguson (153) and Gregory Ferguson Jr. (157) and Ebensburg's Dylan Link (154).

Scotch Valley

HOLLIDAYSBURG - David DeGol and Brian Hall captured first place in the Tiger Flight of the Scotch Valley Country Club's Men's League, while Dennis DeGol and Mitch Neaffer finished second.

Tom Haught and Brad Mikolaczyk won the Palmer Flight, while Steve Foreman and Bob Bilger took second. Don Beerbower and Bob Sutton won the Nicklaus Flight, while Marc McKillop and Matt Wilkinson placed second.

Tim Clapper and Matt Douthit won the Daly Flight, while Nick Panaro and Mark Boland placed second. Brian Irwin and Matt McKillop captured the Bubba Flight, while Richard Fiore and Dex Meadows placed second.

Michael Maiden, David Troutman, Terry Haines and Fred Margerum took first place in the Foreman Foundation. John Williams, Jeff Scott, Nick Legacy and John Pepmeyer placed second, while Scott Seapker, Logan Kowcheck, Dennis Dipasquale and Brian Matthews finished third.

Tri State PGA Juniors

VERONA - Hollidaysburg's Jordan Kirsch has won two Kings Restaurants Junior Golf Tournaments in the last two weeks in the boys 17-18 age division.

This week, he carded a 70 to win at Grandview Golf Course in North Braddock by four strokes over Will Beggs (74). Last week, Kirsch carded a 74 to win the Dr. Charles Cuden Memorial by a stroke over Darren Carrone (75) at Green Oaks Country Club.

Hollidaysburg's Isaac Wood won the boys 14-year-old division this week with a 78.

Park Hills

Len Fiore, Robert Lestochi and Ron Dandrea carded a 148 gross to win Wednesday's Park Hills Senior Slam by 10 strokes over Herb Bolger, Joe Hocherel, Bill Dambeck and Ken Waite (158).

Lynn Grove, Tom Moore, Rick Drabic and Harry McGee took first in the net with a 117, while Don McKnight, Hank Codd, Ray Thomas and Ken Luke (124) finished second.

In Monday's Ladies of the Morning event, Paula Singer and Cindy Trimarco took first with a 74, while Nancy Moore and Janet Grove (76) took second. On July 16, Darlene Grove had the low front gross of 46, while Donna Mannino had the low front net of 40, and Moore had low back gross of 45.

Philipsburg

PHILIPSBURG - Doug Goss captured his seventh title in the Cubs 50-59 gross of the Philipsburg Country Club's Senior Championship on Sunday by carding a 70 - eight strokes ahead of Tom Dunsmore. Chris Sherkel (79) and Stan LaFuria (81) were third and fourth, respectively.

Bo Sankey carded a 74 to win the Grizzlies 60-69 gross for the fifth time, while Gary Yoder (75) was second, and Mike Witters (82) was third. Ron Eiler carded a 74 to win the Polar Bear 70+ gross, while Dave Brown (81) was second.

Max Miller and Andy Reifer tied for the Cubs 50-59 net title at 64, while Denny Rodgers (65) was second, and Jim Burns (67) was third. Denny Goss won the Grizzlies 60-69 net with a 65, while Pud Myers (66) was second, and Bob Smith (68) was third.

Brandon Hoover, Pat McNelis, Paul Miller and Marcus Owens carded a 52 to win the net division of the Elks Home Service Tournament on Saturday by a stroke over Pete Byron, Pat Coval, Bruce Kephart and Tony Kovaloski (53). Eric Neidrick, Georgiann Way, Randy Way and Mollie White (57) took third.

There was a three-tie for fourth at 58 among the teams of Dave Holmes, Dan Nelson, Larry Quick and Ryan Scaife, Jim Harvey, Bud Stroupe, John Supina and Wes Zimmerman and B.J. Light, Dave McCahan, Bill Phillips and Cheryl Phillips.

Sinking Valley

TYRONE - The team of Bill Davis, Harry Miller, Paul Gunia and Tom Bradley won the Sinking Valley Country Club Seniors four-man scramble after matching cards with Ralph Hamilton, John Bernhart, Bob Kelly and Marvin Murray. Both teams scored 61.

Joe Saffin, Bob Kelly, Andrew Ferguson and Kathleen Taylor took first in the Tuesday League modified scramble Tuesday with a 56. Derek Fink, Mark Long, Ethan Vipond and Sherrie Buchanan (59) placed second.

Sylvan Hills

HOLLIDAYSBURG - Winners in the July 16 Sylvan Hills Ladies Golf Association were Mary Jane Terza (best score water holes), Carol Young (longest drive on the first hole) and Loretta Scheiter (longest putt on the first hole).

On July 13, in the Handicap Club Championship, Dave Johns took first place with a 68, while Kirk Dodson (69) was second, and Gary Zimmerman (70) was third.

Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON - Bob Lamey and Ed Gargula carded a 39 for the low gross, and Larry Newton scored a 37 for the low net in the Huntingdon Country Club's Big Orange Golf League. Gargula's par on the fourth was the shot of the day.

The week before, Geoff Clarke had the low gross of 36, while Gargula had the low net of 32. Clarke's eagle putt on the 13th was a shot of the day, as was Bob Fultz's tee shot on the 15th.
