Marlin R. "Hank" Myers, 85, Altoona, died Wednesday morning at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Hazel Myers. He married Linda M. Bloom on June 5, 1971, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife; two sisters: Becky Plavcan and husband, William, of Hagerstown, Md., and Judy Teter of Williamsport, Md.; two brothers: Joel D. Brown of Hagerstown, Md., and Ned Brown and significant other, Pam, of Waynesboro; special cousins: Mike Myers and Annette Houck; a sister-in-law, Trudy Ivory and husband, Paul, of Ashville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Myers Brown, and stepfather, Ted Brown; a brother, Theodore Brown; and his grandparents: Alvin and Jennie Myers, by whom he was raised.
Hank was a 1946 graduate of Altoona High School and served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Drenning Delivery in 1993 after more than 40 years of service. He was a life member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona.
Hank was a member of Hiram Lodge 616, F&AM; Valley of Altoona, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; Mountain Commandery 10, Knights Templar; Chief Logan Forest 131, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, where he was a past Grand Tall Cedar; Jaffa Shrine, where he was a member of the Provost Guard and Legion of Honor; Jaffa Roadrunners; Jaffa Railroaders; and the Altoona Shrine Club. He was also a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police, a life member of VFW Post 8685, Juniata, a member of the Greenwood Fire Company Police and a life member of the Altoona Area High School Alumni Association.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends will also be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, the Rev. Paula Schmitt officiating. Interment will be made at Fairview Cemetery, La Jose.
