The pairings for the National Amateur Baseball Federation Senior World Series were released at a managers' meeting Wednesday night, and area entry Martin Oil will face the Jackson (Miss.) 49ers in this morning's opening round.
Martin Oil, which became this area's first NABF Regional Tournament champion in over five decades last weekend, will open play today at 10 a.m. at Bob Century Park in Struthers, Ohio.
Martin Oil manager Ron Mock said Wednesday night that righthander Damian Moist, a pickup player from DC Moyer, will probably pitch for Martin in Thursday's opening-round game.
Martin Oil will play two games in the round-robin tournament today. Martin Oil will face the Brownlee (Mich.) Lookouts at 3 p.m.
Martin Oil also has one game Friday, taking on the Topeka (Kan.) Stars at 3 p.m.
"We're guaranteed the three games,'' Mock said. "To get to play Saturday, we have to win two of the three games Thursday and Friday.''
If Martin Oil advances to play Saturday, the Bellwood entry would have to win two games that day to advance to Sunday's 7 p.m. championship game.
