Rudolph G. "Rudy" Baldassarre, 89, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at home.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Dominick and Elvira (Tinarro) Baldassarre. He married Virginia F. Worthy at St. Mark's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife; four sons: Leonard R. (Erin) of Birmingham, Pa., and Michael J., Rodney L. and Alfred B. (Suzy), all of Altoona; two grandchildren; and a brother, George of Watkins Glen, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Adeline; and a brother, Daniel.
Rudy was a graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a corporal during the Korean War, where he served for three years. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Puritan Sportswear and retired from Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.
Rudy was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and also belonged to the Buccinese Society. He had a strong love of cooking and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, at Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home, 1520 Fourth St., Altoona. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Axe and Santella Family Chapel, 1534 Fourth St., Altoona, by Father Ron Osinski.
