AKRON, Ohio - The Curve have been flirting lately.
No, not with women in the stands, but with the cycle.
For the second time in the series, a Curve player was one hit shy of the cycle as Alex Dickerson needed only a triple while the Curve downed Akron, 9-4 before 3,654 at Canal Park on Sunday afternoon.
Dickerson's performance comes two games after Mel Rojas Jr. was a homer shy of the feat. Only one player has pulled off the cycle in the Curve's 15 seasons as Andrew Lambo hit for the cycle back on April 9 against Akron this season.
Dickerson nearly got the cycle in the ninth inning when he hit a long ball to the outfield. However, third base coach Austin McClune held up Charlie Cutler, who reached prior to Dickerson, at third. Instead of a triple, Dickerson finished with two doubles.
Tonight: Bowie at Altoona, 7 p.m.
Pitchers: Curve RHP Ethan Hollingsworth (6-3, 3.12) vs. TBD.
Dickerson singled in the first inning, homered in the third inning and doubled in the fifth and ninth innings. He finished the day going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and scoring three runs. Dickerson's homer - his 11th this season - was a two-run shot.
Dickerson's performance was the highlight of the Curve's 15-hit day. Rojas, Cutler, Justin Howard and Adalberto Santos all finished with multiple hits.
Drew Maggi finished the game with two RBIs.
David Bromberg (5-8) got the win, going seven innings and striking out five. Quinton Miller earned the save, his first this season.
Toru Murata (3-5) suffered the loss.
The Curve return home for a seven-game homestand with a game tonight at 7 p.m.
The game is the first of three with Bowie, and then the Curve wrap up the homestand with four games against Erie.
