Russell E. Knisley Sr., 67, Claysburg, went home to be with the Lord Thursday at UPMC Altoona hospital.
He was born in Newton, N.J., son of the late Eugene Knisley and Arlene (Benson) Knisley Clayton. He married Lorraine "Sue" Weyandt on July 12, 1969, in Claysburg.
Surviving are his wife; four children: Russell Jr. and wife, Bobbi Jo, and Michael, all of Claysburg, Bryan and wife, Evangeline, in Iowa and Jill Gregg and husband, Eric, of Roaring Spring; eight grandchildren: Kayla, Bryan Jr., Shawn, Michael, Madison and Landon Knisley and Braydon and Kierstyn Gregg; and a great-grandchild, Noah Kelly.
He is also survived by three brothers: Harry, Edwin and Robert Knisely, all of Claysburg; a sister, Brenda Shelton in Kentucky; three stepbrothers: George Clayton in Kentucky and Allen and Mark Clayton of Claysburg; and a stepsister, Kathy Hull of Claysburg.
Russell was a 1963 graduate of Claysburg-Kimmel High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Pennsylvania National Guard. He was employed as a greeter at Sam's Club, Altoona. He attended the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Claysburg, and he was a fan of all sports but particularly enjoyed high school wrestling.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 480 Emmanuel Drive, Claysburg, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, Pastor Erik Lingenfelter officiating. Interment will be at Bedford Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.
