Dr. Jeffrey K. Wagner, 61, Huron, Ohio, passed away Monday afternoon after a short battle with brain cancer.
He was born in Bellwood, son of Harold E. Wagner and the late Betty Jane (Holsinger) Wagner.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Barbara (Neville); a son, David; his father; a brother, Jerry (Irene); a niece and nephew: Emilee and Sean Wagner; and an aunt, Jean (Lloyd) Noland.
Jeff was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. He received a Bachelor of Science in astronomy from Penn State University in 1974 and a Ph.D. in geology and planetary sciences from the University of Pittsburgh in 1980. He retired in 2011 from Firelands College, where he enjoyed 30 years as a professor of astronomy and geology. He was the author of the book "Introduction to the Solar System," which was published in 1991 and often used in the classroom by his students.
Jeff was a former member of Bellwood Church of the Brethren and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Sandusky, Ohio. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, train watching and photography, stargazing with his telescope, listening to country music and going to the theater.
A funeral service will be held in Sandusky, Ohio, with Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be shared online at www.grofffuneralhomes.com.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood, Pastor John Winesickle officiating. Local arrangements are by Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
