New Jersey DT White picks Nittany Lions

The hits just keep on coming for Penn State's 2014 football recruiting class.

Or, in this case, the hitters.

Less than a week after the Nittany Lions received their 12th verbal commitment from sure-tackling cornerback Troy Vincent Jr., Millville, N.J. defensive tackle Antoine White jumped at a scholarship and became Penn State pledge No. 13 on Monday.

The 6-foot-3, 255-pound White made 80 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and six sacks as a junior. He was a Press of Atlantic City first team all-area selection, as the Thunderbolts reached the South Jersey Group V quarterfinals.

Defensive tackle is considered an area of need in this recruiting class, and there has been some speculation that the Lions could even try to bring in two at the position even though they only can hand out 15 scholarships because of NCAA sanctions.

Virginia's Ricky Walker and New York's Thomas Holley had been the other highly rated defensive tackles most closely linked with Penn State - Penn State also is likely to bring in an offensive tackle and is hoping to land Aliquippa defensive back Dravon Henry with its few remaining scholarships.

White just had made an unofficial visit to Penn State over the weekend, and, although he didn't commit then, reports were very favorable for the Nittany Lions. Michigan State, North Carolina, Rutgers, Maryland and Duke were the other schools near the top of his list. Some of his other offers were from Pitt, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Syracuse and Vanderbilt.
