The Altoona Mirror

GALLITZIN -- Joshua Maruska, a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 2059, Gallitzin, has completed his Eagle Scout service project. He received his Eagle Scout award on April 28 during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor held at the American Legion in Gallitzin. His project involved working with the Sons of the American Legion in Gallitzin to clean up Bennington Cemetery and clear a walkway for easier access to the cemetery for visitors. He also helped to build three new crosses to replace old ones that were crumbling. He painted the large cross that is visible from Route 22. He had signs made and placed one at the entrance to the access road; the other is to be placed at the walkway when it is complete. He and his troop also helped to prepare the Bennington Cemetery for the Memorial Day Service last year, along with all cemeteries in Gallitzin.
