Curve make history in loss

June 23, 2013
The Altoona Mirror

From Mirror reports

BOWIE, Md. - The Curve might be cursed when the manager doesn't travel with the team.

Back in 2004, then manager Tony Beasley was away from the Curve - who were in Portland at the time - coaching in the MLB All-Star Futures Game. The Curve led 7-1, but allowed seven runs, falling 8-7 in 10 innings.

Fast-forward to 2013, and with current manager Carlos Garcia away with his family, the Curve suffered the biggest collapse in franchise history. After leading 8-0 in the fourth, the Curve allowed 10 unanswered runs as Bowie came from behind to beat Altoona, 10-9, before 7,992 at Prince George's Stadium on Saturday.

The Curve, who led 8-4 after six innings, gave up six runs in the seventh inning. Jason Townsend and Jhonathan Ramos allowed eight runs in a combined 1 2/3 innings. Ramos, who got the loss, gave up four runs on five hits, only recording one out.

Bowie's Aaron Baker sparked the six-hit seventh inning after he tripled, driving in two runs. Baker was the first batter Ramos faced. Quinton Miller replaced Ramos after five runs came across.

The Curve scored in the first four innings, including two three-run innings in the first and fourth and led after 3 1/2 innings, 8-0. The Curve scored one run in the eighth but went down in order in the ninth inning.

After starter Jameson Taillon, who pitched five innings, gave up two runs and was pulled after 89 pitches, the bullpen allowed eight runs.
