Francis Arnold Bloom, 63, of Kendrick Road, Houtzdale, died Sunday at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.
He was born in Clearfield, son of the late Ellis and Gladys (Moore) Bloom. He married Paulette Ruth Irwin on Dec. 21, 1968, in the Primitive Methodist Church of Houtzdale.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Jamie Francis and wife, Noelle, of Montgomery; two grandchildren: Morgan Ruth-Anna Bloom and Carson Jamie Bloom; four siblings: James and wife, Linda, of El Paso, Texas, John and wife, Annette, of Spring Mills, Rodger and wife, Wendy, of Morrisdale and Sandy Rebo and domestic partner, Doc McDonald, of Osceola Mills; his stepfather, David Spicer of Philipsburg; and an aunt, Marie Bloom of Faunce.
He is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ralph and Autumn Haines of Houtzdale, Arthur and Nannette Anderson of Delmont and Melvin Archer of Brisbin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David; a nephew, Tony Rebo; an uncle, William Bloom; his parents-in-law, Edward T. and Ruth M. Irwin; and a sister-in-law, Carol Archer.
Francis was employed as a math teacher at Tyrone Area High School for 39 years, where he served also as head of the Mathematics Department until his retirement. He was a retired major in the U.S. Army National Guard and Reserve. He was a member of New Hope Christian Fellowship Church of Houtzdale, Family Motor Coach Association, National Education Association, Who's Who among America's Teachers and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Francis was instrumental in the creation of the Rowdies Soccer Association and was a Civil War enthusiast.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, June 13, 2103, at Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale, the Rev. Dennis Frantz officiating. Interment will follow in IOOF Cemetery, Brisbin, with graveside military honors conducted by the Houtzdale American Legion Honor Guard and playing of "Taps" by Britainy Lewis.
