Davison keys Conrad Chiropractic’s 2-0 mark

June 9, 2013
By Matt Adamiak - For the Mirror

Another week, another two wins without a loss for Conrad Chiropractic/Lilly American Legion in the Altoona Greater City Baseball League.

Lilly rolled through its opponents this week, mercy-ruling both ProActive Sports (14-4) and Mountain View Archery (17-0). What a week Lilly Conrad Chiropractic/American Legion outfielder Brent Davison had: Davison went 6-for-8 at the plate, slammed a homer, drove in five and scored three runs hitting cleanup.

Leadoff hitter and center fielder, Brent Matish was just as sizzling as Davison, going 5-for-9, scoring six runs, hitting a double, and driving home two.

The pitching staff more than carried its weight, as well, allowing just four runs against a perennially contending team in ProActive Sports. Matt Aungst went all five innings of the mercy-rule shortened game against ProActive Sports, limiting it to just four hits and fanning five. Paul Holberg and Gregg Bandzuh combined on the shutout of Mountain View Archery.

With the way this team has been playing baseball, it's looking unstoppable.

ProActive scores aplenty

ProActive Sports scored an incredible 26 runs Wednesday against Sheetz.

ProActive had just 10 hits, and Sheetz committed just a pair of errors but Sheetz pitchers walked 19 batters. Nick Petteneti walked 11, David Guyer issued five free passes, and Tim Eck walked three.

The most damaging hit for ProActive Sports was a grand slam by Mark Saxman.

Hot hitters

n In a pair of games this week for ProActive Sports, Matt Hershey went 2-for-5 at the plate, jacked a homer, had three RBIs and scored four times.

n Ketrow Insurance only got in one game this week due to a rained out game Thursday but two players had three hits in its game against Sheetz Tuesday. Both Tyson Steele and Josh Adams went 3-for-3 at the dish, combining four seven runs scored and drive in two. Both of Adams' hits were doubles.

n In only one game for JnD Guns, Matt McCamley went 2-for-4 with a homer and a double.

Top pitchers

n A trio of Ketrow Insurance hurlers, Ryan Waltz, Sean Thompson and Austin McMonagle, combined on a two-hitter, allowing just one run and struck out seven Sheetz hitters Tuesday at Juniata. Not one of them walked a batter.

n Johnston Realty's Mike Finlan and Chad Speigle combined on a five-hitter against Railbirds Wednesday at Juniata, gave up just one run, and struck out a total of five batters. Speigle got the win.

n Drew Peterson, of JnD Guns, pitched a complete-game Saturday against Railbirds. He allowed two runs in the first and one more in the seventh.

Hot team

Cold teams

n Sheetz went winless, dropping to 0-7 on the season.

n Crown Jewels/Cox Refractories went 0-2 this week and fell to 1-4 along the way.
