CLAYSBURG - Altoona-Blair County Development Corp. has decided to move forward with the acquisition of a tract of land in Greenfield Township that it plans to turn into a new business park.
ABCD Corp. had held an option to purchase the 140-acre site, which includes about 75 to 80 developable acres.
"We are proceeding to firm up the closing process. We hope to schedule the closing for the last week of June," said President and CEO Marty Marasco.
The park would adjoin the existing Walter Business Park, which is home to the Sheetz Distribution Center and Sheetz Bros. Kitchen.
Marasco previously said he hoped construction on the park could begin in the spring or summer of 2014.
In the meantime, ABCD Corp. has filed a request with the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration for $1.5 million in funding to help construct the business park.
ABCD Corp. should learn this summer or fall whether the funding is approved.
