Lillian Mae Rutherford, 72, Altoona, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday at Altoona Regional after an extended illness.
She was born in Williamsburg, daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Gardner) Hughes. She married James Rutherford on Jan. 3, 1959, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 2009.
Surviving are a son, Pete at home; two daughters: Jeannette E. of Altoona and Melissa J. Gillmen and husband, Ricky D., at home; three granddaughters: Taylor Renee Rutherford and Tiana Shae and Talena Jamae Gillmen, all of whom Me-Maw was very proud and loved deeply; seven siblings: Ronald Hughes (Jayne), Skip Hughes (Bonnie), Richard Hughes, Darlene Fetter, Nancy Fetter (Ed), Susan Knotts (Jeff) and Linda Hughes, all of Altoona; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Gates; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: James, Fred and Bill Hughes; and three sisters: Marjorie Dempsie, Bertha Schultz and Carolyn Miller.
Lillian attended Altoona Restoration Church of God. She formerly was a teacher's aide for preschool children with special needs at Blair County Children's Center for Special Learning.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, June 6, 2013, in Stevens Memorial Chapel by Pastor Kim G. Swindell. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
