Rev. Charles R. Stump, 67, Roaring Spring, died Saturday afternoon at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born in Doylestown, son of Norman Stump Sr. and the late Amy (Dunn) Stump. He married Patricia A. Geiger on April 16, 1968, in Quakertown.
Surviving are his father in Wisconsin; his wife; two children: Theresa Smith and husband, Eric, of Roscoe and Doug of Roaring Spring; four grandchildren: Zachary, Nicholas and Cassandra Smith and Jordan Stump; and two brothers: Stanley and James.
Charles was a 1965 graduate of Quakertown High School. A graduate of the Municipal Police Academy at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he also attended the Grace Bible Institute of Omaha, Neb. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War.
Charles was the pastor of Ore Hill Union Church for the last 23 years. He retired as the Police Chief of Roaring Spring in September 2003 after 20 years of service and had also served as the minister of the Roaring Spring Mennonite Church for 20 years.
Charles enjoyed hunting and fishing, had many artistic talents and loved being a minister and helping other people. He was a member of the Murray-Appleman American Legion Post #147, Roaring Spring, and was a former member of the Roaring Spring Lions Club, the Martinsburg Sportsman's Club, the Roaring Spring Ambulance Service and the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, Pastor Lew Button officiating, with military honors provided by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be made in Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the family.
