Vincent E. Prugar, 83, Grandview, died peacefully Saturday afternoon at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Pittsburgh, son of the late Pawel and Mary (Zajac) Prugar. He married Dolores S. Ziobro on Sept. 10, 1955, in Pittsburgh.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 57 years, Dolores "Jasna"; six children: Valerie A. Keller and husband, Barry, of Blue Ridge Summit, Vincent M. and wife, Mariola (Nikulcza), of York, Vanessa M. of Altoona, Vivian R. Fry and husband, Edward L., of Martinsburg, Victor P. of Altoona and Vance C. and wife, Vanessa (Guillard), of Old Hickory, Tenn.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Sylvia Fitzhenry of Aliso Viejo, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Paul Daniel Prugar.
Vincent was a 1947 graduate of North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving as staff sergeant attached to the 23rd medical group during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 1, 1952. The first in his family to attend college, he went on to receive his degree from the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy in 1956. He was employed at Black's Pharmacy and retired from Dick's Pharmacy in 1993.
Vincent was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening and golfing.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 900 N. 4th St. Altoona, the Rev. Msgr. Michael E. Servinsky, celebrant. Interment will be held at Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, please have masses said in remembrance of Vincent.
