Three softball teams from the Altoona Mirror coverage area that begin PIAA tournament action on Monday will do so at Penn State's Nittany Lion Softball Park and Beard Field, site of their recent District 6 championship game wins, district softball chairman Don Hosterman announced on Friday morning.
Hollidaysburg will start a quadrupleheader at 12:30 p.m. when the Lady Tigers against Ambridge from the WPIAL in Class AAA action. That will be followed at 2:30 by the Class A first round interdistrict game pitting Claysburg-Kimmel against Burgettstown.
In the nightcap, Philipsburg-Osceola faces Chartiers-Houston in Class AA action. That game is scheduled to begin at 7, immediately following the Mifflin County/Cumberland Valley game.
Two other area spring sports teams also will take the field on Monday. District 5 Class AA softball champion Chestnut Ridge will face Ligonier Valley at noon at Bedford Area High School. The 5-AA champ Bedford baseball team will meet District 6 runner-up Mount Union in a game whose site and start time is yet to be announced.
Tickets for the games at Penn State are $6 for adults and $3 for students.
No strollers or bags are permitted inside Nittany Lion Softball Park. Fans needing to bring in medicine or child care items for infants should use a one-gallon, clear, zip-top type bag if it cannot be carried in a pocket.
