Ernest Edward Grimminger, 99, Altoona, died Tuesday at Altoona Regional.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Ernest Trexler and Anna Catherine (Krieger) Grimminger. He married Blanche A. Rieper on March 25, 1935, in Altoona, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 1995.
Surviving are five children: Arline L. Leberfinger and husband, Robert, Edward C. and wife, Judith, and David E. and wife, Barbara, all of Altoona, Diane L. Schorner and husband, Edward, of Lititz and Janice Manning of Altoona; a son-in-law, Paul Leberfinger of Lititz; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Marie Leberfinger; and two sisters: Dorothy Zorger and Rosemary Grove.
Ernest was a 1932 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. He retired in 1974 from the Penn Central Railroad with 39 years of service. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and also belonged to the Circus Model Builders of America, Knights of Columbus and Nocturnal Adoration Society.
Ernest enjoyed flower gardening, drawing, building circus models, playing the piano and history.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil service for the deceased will be held at 3 p.m. Friday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Saturday, June 1, 2013, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, the Rev. Ronald V. Osinski officiating. Entombment will be made at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
