BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Curve righty Luis Sanz lasted longer than his last appearance.
But the results were much the same.
Sanz, who started Friday against Richmond and gave up six earned runs without recording an out before being pulled, tossed 2/3 innings of relief Monday night at Binghamton. He struggled again, giving up four earned runs as the B-Mets downed the Curve, 8-5, before 1,444 fans at NYSEG Stadium.
Altoona has lost four in a row and nine out of 10 to drop to 20-31, a season-high 11 games below .500.
The four runs Sanz gave up broke open a 4-4 game, and ultimately were enough for the B-Mets as Adam Kolarek (1-1), who got the win, and Jack Leathersich, who got his third save of the year, allowed just three hits and one run in the final two innings.
Tonight: Altoona at Binghamton, 6:35 p.m.
Pitchers: Curve RHP Jameson Taillon (3-5, 2.91) vs. B-Mets LHP Mark Cohoon (3-2, 3.27)
Sanz has now given up 10 runs in his last two appearances. He was pitching Monday night because of the low number of pitches he threw in the Curve's 20-9 loss to Richmond on Friday.
Sanz (2-3) got the loss, allowing three hits, four runs and three walks while retiring only two batters in the seventh inning.
Allan Dykstra knocked in Daniel Muno for the B-Mets' sixth, and ultimately decisive, run. Dykstra went 2-for-3, driving in a pair.
The Curve pitching staff overall has struggled in the last four games, allowing 53 runs. The team's ERA has gone from one of the best to third worst (4.61) in the Eastern League in a matter of days.
One of the rocks for the Curve pitching staff this year has been Jameson Taillon, and he is scheduled to pitch tonight. Taillon is 2-4 with a 2.91 ERA - lowest among the starters.
Key player: B-Mets 1B Allan Dykstra went 2-for-3, driving in a pair of runs.
Key play: Dykstra singled in 2B Daniel Muno, which proved to be the winning run for the B-Mets in the 7th inning.
