Harlyn J. "Big Jim" Collier, 82, Altoona, formerly of Bellwood, met his Lord and Savior early Friday morning at Valley View Home.
He was born in Antis Township, son of the late Chester E. and Grace L. (Yohn) Collier. He was twice married; first to Doris May Cherry then to Deborah M. Hartline.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah, of Altoona; two daughters: Deborah L. (David) Rupert of Harrisburg and Terrie L. (Don) Leaper of Tyrone; three step-children: Jason, Michele and Nichole; five grandchildren: Emily, Brad, Sharon, Julia and Gail; seven step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren: Kai, Emma and Wyatt; and a sister, Nancy McCahan of Tyrone.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy L.; a sister, Phyllis Allen; and a brother, Chester H.
Jim retired as a journeyman/lineman and safety director with IBEW Local 126.
He was a Navy veteran, serving during the Korean conflict.
Jim was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood, F&AM Tyrone Lodge No. 494, Altoona Consistory and the Jaffa Shrine.
He enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially enjoying his fishing trips to Canada. Jim was an avid Steelers and PSU football fan. He dearly loved family gatherings and spending time with all of his grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, with the Rev. Philip Cherry officiating. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
