George Hudson Jr., 89, Cresson, died Saturday at Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg.
He was born in South Fork, son of the late George Sr. and Jenny (Reed) Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Winona June Berkhimer, who died on Jan. 15th, 2013; and sisters: Lila Lee and Beulah Belle Hudson.
He is survived by his children: Linda (Larry) Filak of Cresson, Georgeanne "Gan" (Rick) Pettenati of Ashville and Marvin (Dorothy) Hudson of Hollidaysburg; six grandchildren: Dr. Lawrence (Nicole) Filak Jr., Darin Filak, Angela (Jody) Waddell, Christy (Dan) Servello, Joseph Hudson and Megan Hudson; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Reed (Lucy) Hudson of S. Plainfield, N.J.; and a brother-in-law Glenn (Ruth) Berkhimer in Ohio.
George was a graduate of Cresson High School.
He later attended military school and was a World War II Army veteran. He was the recipient of the American Campaign Medal as well as the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze stars.
George was a local Little League Umpire for 25 years and enjoyed gardening and fishing.
He was a life member of the Cresson American Legion and the Sankertown V.F.W.; and was a member of the Cresson Lions Club.
He retired in 1982 from the former Cresson Sate School and previous to that had worked in steel mills and as superintendent of the former Ehrenfeld Mines.
George was an avid football fan. He enjoyed attending the Penn Cambria Panther games and watching the Steelers and Penn State on television.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at the Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013, Pastor William Pepper officiating. Interment will be in Alto-Reste Park Cemetery. Military rites are by Cresson American Legion, Sankertown V.F.W. and other military organizations.
