Daniel L. Negri, 96, Altoona, passed away Friday at home.
He was born in Altoona, son of Raffaele and Emanuela (Boccichio) Negri. He married Mary M. Genovese on Dec. 19, 1949, and she died Dec. 5, 2003.
Surviving are two daughters: Christina Gurchik (Frank) in Maryland and Deborah Totten of Altoona; five grandchildren: Leah (Richard) Stonerook, Alexis (Brian) Shunk, Heather (Greg) Musselman, Frank (Sandy) Gurchik and Michael (Joadele) Gurchik; five great-grandchildren: Brianna and Brandon Shunk, Ashley and Zachary Stonerook and Alivia Musselman; a sister, Theresa Hughes of Williamsburg; and two brothers: John (Darlene) of Altoona and Eugene of Allentown.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Anthony, Andrew and Michael; and four sisters: Louise Trabucco, Filomena and Josephine Negri and Evelyn Gilliand.
Daniel was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving as a private first class. He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont, and he enjoyed playing instant lottery tickets and had a wonderful dry sense of humor.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church by Monsignor Michael A. Becker. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
