Ethel Elizabeth "Betty" (Kelley) Woomer, 84, Glendale, Ariz., passed away May 7, 2013.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Kenneth C. Sr. and Ethel (Bahn) Kelley. She married Van O. Woomer on Dec. 23, 1950, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 2008.
Surviving are two sons: Van Michael (Nancy) and Christopher J. (Rita); a daughter, Barbara (Ron) Gibson; eight grandchildren: Sheryl Ventura, R. Scott Gibson, Leah Woomer, Katherine Marshall, Christina Miner, Victoria Preston, Ben Woomer and Brenda Woomer; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth C. Kelley Jr.
Betty graduated from Altoona High School. She and Van moved around the world together when he was in the U.S. Air Force. She spent 15 years as a stay-at-home mom before restarting a career in civil service. She was employed as a telephone operator in Washington, D.C., in base supply supporting fighter jets for Vietnam at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, with the U.S. Geological Survey in Flagstaff, Ariz., and with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (Water Lab) in Phoenix, Ariz. As she moved with her husband, she also worked as a secretary for a variety of businesses from South Carolina to Alaska.
Betty enjoyed art, travel and animals.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Celebration Lutheran Church, 8726 W. Olive Ave., Peoria, Ariz.
