Betty F. Helsel, 92, Claysburg, passed away Friday at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring.
She was born in Claysburg, daughter of the late Mark and Catherine (Benton) Walter. She married Orville P. "Petey" Helsel on May 17, 1943, in Cumberland, Md., and he passed away Oct. 13, 2001.
Surviving are a son, Richard P. and wife, Sharon, of Crownsville, Md.; a brother, Robert P. Walter of Claysburg; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Walter of Claysburg; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard L. Helsel; and a brother, John Walter.
Betty was a member of Lower Claar Church of the Brethren since 1934. She retired from the A.W. Smith Market after 25 years of service and also worked on the family produce farm. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, canning, cooking and crossword puzzles.
Friends will be received from 9:30 until the 10 a.m. funeral service today, May 14, 2013, at Lower Claar Church of the Brethren, 1044 Lower Claar Road, Claysburg, Pastor John Winesickle officiating. Interment will be in Upper Claar Cemetery.
