Lawrence C. Anderson, 91, Ebensburg, died Monday at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
He was born in Vintondale, son of the late Marshall J. and Olive V. (Rager) Anderson.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol H. Lee and husband, David, of Cresson; a grandson, Ralph Lee and wife, Wendy, of Altoona; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Frederick and husband, Ben, of Ebensburg; five great-grandchildren: Maddison and Makenna Lee and Damen, Lucas and Morgan Frederick; a sister, Carrie Maderia of Oberlin, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Frances Anderson of Amherst, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Henderson (Johns) Anderson; a brother, Russell; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Maderia.
Lawrence was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the 80th Infantry Division in the European theater and attaining a Silver Star and Purple Heart and many of other citations. He retired from the United Mine Workers of America.
Lawrence was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4963, American Legion Post 238 and Moose Lodge 681. He was a member of Blue Lodge 312; the Jaffa Shrine, where he was the oldest member of the Provost Guard; United Mine Workers of America, District 2, Local Union 1368; and Cambria County Industrial Old-Timers Baseball League.
Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, May 10, 2013, at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Road, Johnstown, Nancy Hoover officiating. Committal will be in Armaugh Cemetery with military rites by Menoher VFW Post 155.
