The cause of the suspicious death of an area man found in the Little Juniata River remains under investigation, according to the Blair County coroner.
Dominic R. Balzano, 28, of Dysart RD was discovered dead just off Route 453 in Snyder Township, and an autopsy was performed Friday, Blair County Coroner Patricia Ross said.
Ross said investigators are awaiting the results of a toxicology report and further findings by a pathologist to determine what killed Balzano because there was no water in his lungs. Balzano was in the river "a short time," less than 24 hours, before he was discovered, Ross said.
State police are heading up the investigation, which started about 5 p.m. with the finding of the body by kayakers, but no new details were available Friday.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, and 4 until the 6 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, Altoona, with the father of the deceased, the Rev. Jim Balzano, officiating. Committal will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Dominic's memory to the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God for the g90 Project, which raises money to free people from the sex slave industry.
