James J. Gibbons, 84, Pittsburgh, died Tuesday.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late James P. and Mary Ellen (Gibbons) Gibbons.
He was the beloved husband of 49 years of Mary Ann (Kirsch); and loving brother-in-law of John (Marlene) and David (Agnes) Kirsch. He is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews; 28 great-nieces and great-nephews; and special cousins: Loretta and Patricia Batkiewicz.
Jim was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War with more than 34 years of service. He was also the former purchasing agent at the 911th Air Force Base for more than 29 years.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Schepner-McDermott Funeral Home Inc., 165 Noble Ave., Pittsburgh. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Ascension Roman Catholic Church, where Jim was an active and charter member, officiated by Bishop William Winters. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
