Winifred M. "Winnie" McLaughlin, 89, Altoona, passed away Monday morning at her residence after a brief illness.
She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of Collins Patrick and Ethel (Brown) Kennedy. She married William McLaughlin on Aug. 20, 1960, in Winchester, Va.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Jeffrey L. Kennedy of Hollidaysburg; a daughter, Beth A. Garbinsky (Ronald) of Tyrone; four grandchildren: Jeffrey C. Kennedy, Julie Kennedy Nash, Brooke A. Garbinsky and Ronald W. Garbinsky II; and a sister, Gladys Margaret Worley of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, three brothers and a great-granddaughter.
Winnie attended Hollidaysburg High School and retired from Sylvania Electric after 26 years of service. She had been a waitress in restaurants in Hollidaysburg and Altoona and was also employed by Servomation. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Hollidaysburg Area High School Alumni Association and the Pleasant Valley and Roaring Spring Lioness clubs and was currently a member of the Roaring Spring Lions Club.
Winnie enjoyed bead crafts, baking raisin-filled cookies and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a Lions service will be held at 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the funeral home by the Rev. Sharon Erb. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
