Aaron Kovach, a Hollidaysburg graduate, went 9-for-13 for the Mount Aloysius baseball team en route to being named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference baseball player of the week.

The senior third baseman had six RBIs and a homer while drawing six walks.

Kovach was recently named the Mount Aloysius Male Athlete of the Year and was named the most valuable player of the baseball team for the second consecutive season.

Through April 22, Kovach was hitting .489 with 35 RBIs.

Tyler Ferguson, a Central graduate, pitched a seven-inning complete game and gave up just one unearned run while striking out 11 for La Roche in a 7-1 triumph over Mount Aloysius.

Nate Pope, a Hollidaysburg graduate, hit a solo home run for the Pitt-Johnstown baseball team in a 6-4 win over Shepherd on Saturday.

Tyrone graduate John Shaffer's RBI double in the sixth inning proved to be the winning hit for the Slippery Rock baseball team in a 6-5 win over IUP recently.

Bishop Guilfoyle graduate Miranda Merilli finished 15-5 with a 1.80 ERA and 142 strikeouts in 128 innings for the NYU Polytechnic softball team.

Merilli led the Skyline Conference in wins, ERA and strikeouts per seven innings.

Dylan Link, a Bishop Carroll graduate, shot 4-over par and won the Thiel College Spring Invitational for the Mount Aloysius golf team.

At the end of the fall golf season, Link was named an AMCC first-team all-conference selection.

Hollidaysburg graduate Anthony DeGol, a senior on the Penn State golf team, tied for 37th overall with a 19-over-par 307 at the Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind.

The Penn State men's golf team finished in 11th place overall.

Allison Kristofco, a Bishop Guilfoyle graduate, improved her regular-season record for the Wilkes women's tennis team to 44-3 with five wins at No. 2 singles and five more at No. 2 doubles in wins over Bloomsburg, Elizabethtown, Muhlenberg, Kings and Stevenson this past week.

Kristofco was also inducted into the first selection class of Colonel Elite. The new program honors 30 student athletes for their athletic contributions while maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Peter Riley, a Northern Bedford graduate, took second place in both the singles and doubles competition at the Presidents Athletic Conference tennis championships.

Riley, a member of the Grove City team that won the team championship, will take part in the NCAA Division III tournament.

Shippensburg's Mike Treese, an Altoona graduate, finished sixth in the 400-meter dash at the Paul Kaiser Invitational with a season-best time of 50.59.

He also placed ninth in the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 22.42. Treese was part of the second-place 1600-meter relay team with a split time of 49.20, and he's qualified for the PSAC championships in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes.

Bellwood-Antis graduate Emiley Stapleton ran the women's individual 800 event with a personal best time of 2:25 for the Lock Haven outdoor track and field team at the Bucknell Team Challenge.

Justin Clapper, a Bedford graduate, finished fifth in both the discus and hammer throws at the Widener Invitational for the Juniata track team.

Altoona graduate Ryan Trexler was part of an eighth-place 1600 meter relay team for the Eagles at the event.

Emily Waksmunski a Bishop Carroll Graduate placed first for the Bucknell track and field team at the Bloomsburg Maroon & Gold Invite in the 1500-meter run with a time of 438.40

Shippensburg sophomore Derek Nothstein threw another NCAA provisional qualifier in the javelin at the ninth annual Paul Kaiser Classic held at Seth Grove Stadium in Shippensburg. His first-place mark of 207 feet, 3 inches bested SU alumni and former national champion Nate Reider, who took second with a throw of 201-11.
