BG earns five-set victory over SC

STATE COLLEGE - Ben Kasun tallied 10 service points, 11 kills and 35 assists, and Jamey Brumbaugh had 10 service points, 10 kills and 10 digs as Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic defeated State College, 23-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 16-14, in high school boys volleyball Thursday.

Collin Welteroth had 10 service points and 12 digs, Brennan Hurd had 14 service points, Brendan Trybus had 11 digs, and Nick Little and Damon Rickens each had 10 kills for the Marauders.

BISHOP GUILFOYLE: Hurd 14, Welteroth 10, Brumbaugh 10, Kasun 10, Rickens 6, Little 5.

Mountain Lions roll

MARTINSBURG - Tanner Baumgartner registered 14 kills, 23 assists and eight digs to lead Altoona to a 25-10, 25-21, 25-8 win at Central that got the Mountain Lions above .500 at 3-2.

Josh Huber added 11 kills for the Lions, while Eric Wineland tallied 11 service points and nine digs, and Ethan Knepp served for 12 points. Chris Brumbaugh had six kills and Robbie Dibert five assists for Central.

ALTOONA: Koelle 4, Baker 7, Perehinec 1, Piaggio 1, Smith 3, Baumgartner 5, Perino 1, Clawson 11, Knepp 12.

BC?juniors beat Rangers

SIDMAN - Bishop Carroll beat Forest Hills, 29-27, 23-25 15-13, in junior high girls action.

BC's Jordyn Platt had 24 assists and 10 service points, while teammate Kayce Ertter had 13 service points, and Hannah Cotchen had 16 kills. Bishop Carroll is 9-1.

JV: Forest Hills, 25-23, 21-25, 15-5. Record: Bishop Carroll (8-2).

Moore, Elias honored

HUNTINGDON - Coming off its first Continental Volleyball Conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth, the Juniata College men's volleyball team can keep celebrating.

Coach Kevin Moore and freshman Matt Elias were named CVC Coach and Rookie of the Year, respectively. Moore led Juniata to its first back-to-back 20-win seasons. Moore was also named EIVA Coach of the Year in 2011.
