Heights’ Wills hits for cycle in 8-inning win

PATTON - Alyssa Wills hit for the cycle and drove in six runs, but it was an RBI single by Cori James that broke a 9-9 tie in the eighth inning to give Cambria Heights a 10-9 win over Richland in high school softball Wednesday.

Teammate Lindsey Kosicki added two RBIs to go with two hits from Kara Cordell for the winners, who improved to 4-1.

MARTINSBURG - Taylor McKnight had three hits, including two doubles, and knocked in five runs to lead Central to a win over Altoona.

Central's Lauren Aiello and Cassidi Barnes had two hits apiece, as did Altoona's Morgan James and Kirsten Kerr.

JOHNSTOWN - Bishop Guilfoyle fell to 0-6 with a four-inning loss to Johnstown.

Madison McKee and Lexi Lindrose combined on a one-hitter for the Lady Trojans, who improved to 4-0. Allie Worley got the lone hit for Guilfoyle. Lindrose had four hits and drove in six runs for Johnstown, which ended the game with a nine-run fourth inning.

P-O juniors sweep Altoona

PHILIPSBURG - The Philipsburg-Osceola junior high softball team swept a twinbill from Altoona, 9-0, and 9-6.

Maggie Peck got the five-inning shutout in the opener. Teammate Julia Burns hit a two-run homer.

Altoona (0-6) got two RBIs from Madison James in the second game. P-O is 3-2.

B Game: Philipsburg-Osceola, 10-0 and 15-0.

Tigers juniors get two wins

HOLLIDAYSBURG - The Hollidaysburg junior high team improved to 6-4 by sweeping a doubleheader from Clearfield, winning the first game, 9-0, and the second game, 5-1.

Mikayla Focht pitched a one-hit shutout for Hollidaysburg in the first game and also collected three hits at the plate. Focht had two hits in the second game.

Kaitlyn Cappella had two doubles in the first game for Hollidaysburg, and was the winning pitcher in the second game, throwing a three-hitter. Morgan Seiler also had two hits in the second game for Hollidaysburg.

JV: Clearfield won, 15-10 in the first game. The second game ended in a 10-10 tie.

Glendale juniors win twice

FLINTON - Glendale improved to 5-1 by sweeping a doubleheader from Harmony, 17-2 and 12-2 in junior high action. Both games were stopped after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Anna Fowler had three hits and drove in three runs in the first game for Glendale, and belted a homer and drove in three more runs in the second game. Kyla Holtz had two hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs in the first game for Glendale, while Kenesha Gustason had two hits and two RBIs in the first game, and Ellie Leyo had two hits and had three RBIs in the second game.

Holtz was the winning pitcher in the first game, while Leyo was the winning pitcher in the second game. Both pitchers allowed just three hits.
