Covering the bases

April 17, 2013
The Altoona Mirror

LEADING OFF: RHP Jameson Taillon will make his third start of the season when the Curve play their first school kids day game this morning at 10:30. Taillon is 1-1 with a 1.64 ERA, giving up two runs in 11 innings with 14 strikeouts and four walks. He struck out a career-high 10 his last time out against Harrisburg but suffered his first Double-A loss.

SAFE AT FIRST: 3B Adalberto Santos was placed on the disabled list Tuesday with a left hip strain. Santos was injured a week ago at Akron and missed two games before returning to the starting lineup Saturday. He never fully healed, though, and was limited to pinch hitting Sunday and Monday.

STEALING SECOND: Losing Santos is a big blow to an already struggling Curve offense. Santos is hitting .417 (10-for-24) with one homer and three RBIs.

ROUNDING THIRD: IF Kelson Brown was added to the Curve roster to take Santos' place. Brown hit .290 in 56 games as a reserve infielder for Altoona last season.

HEADING HOME: The Curve wrap up their homestand this morning, then head out on a seven-game road trip to Harrisburg and Richmond.
