David G. Leckvarcik, 67, formerly of Petersburg, died Tuesday at Westminster Woods at Huntingdon.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late George and Anna (Straka) Leckvarcik. He married Maxine K. Fleck on Aug. 17, 1968, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona, and she preceded him in death on June 13, 2008.
Surviving are three daughters: Lois Ann of New Cumberland, Leslie Grace of Petersburg and Emily Kate of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Naomi Marky (Ronald) of Savannah, Ga.; and a brother, Daniel J. (Cindy) of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.
David was a 1963 graduate of Punxsutawney High School, a 1967 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in mathematics education, a 1972 graduate of IUP with an M.S. in mathematics and a 1992 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Doctorate of Education. Dr. Leckvarcik was the former superintendent of the Juniata Valley School District and the Apollo Ridge School District.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Petersburg, Juniata Valley Lions Club, Juniata Valley Audubon Society and Pennsylvania Association for Rural and Small Schools, and he enjoyed golfing, traveling and kayaking.
At David's request, there will be no viewing. A celebration of life will be held at noon Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church, Petersburg, the Rev. Rick Klotz officiating.
