Gerald L. "Jerry" Zook, 67, passed away Thursday in New York City of pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Martinsburg, son of W. Paul and Myrtle (Weaver) Zook.
Surviving are six brothers: Ray, Ralph, Lloyd, Richard, Dale and Leon; and two sisters: Esther Teeter and Carolyn Zook.
Jerry was a 1963 graduate of Central High School. He attended Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., and Juilliard School of Music in New York City. He played the piano and sang in New York City as Jerry Scott for almost 50 years.
Jerry received many awards. Twice he was named piano bar player of the year in New York City. He was honored by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs 12 times for his excellence in piano bars and rooms. He also received the Critic's Choice Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Piano Bar Performance and many more awards.
Jerry once said, "I love to make people happy. That's my job. I play the music as I hear it in my head."
There will be no viewing, but a memorial service is being planned for a later date.
