Leo L. Merva, 82, Cresson, died Monday at Van Zandt VA Medical Center.
He was born in Cassandra, son of the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Benjack) Merva.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Bowtell); four children: Lee (Karen) of Cresson, Dawn Sallee (Larry) of Fishers, Ind., Melody Merva (Bob) of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Joseph of Altoona; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Andrew of Portage. He also is survived by his extended family at the VA Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Leo retired after 21 years of service with the U.S. Army, serving one tour of duty during the Korean War and three tours of duty in Vietnam. He was last employed and retired from Fry's Metals, Altoona. He was a member of Cresson American Legion Post 238.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, the Rev. David Roesch officiating. Military graveside rites will be provided by Cresson American Legion, Sankertown VFW and other local veteran organizations.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Fisher House Foundation in memory of Leo.
