Covering the bases

April 4, 2013
The Altoona Mirror

LEADING OFF: Weather is always a concern when the Curve open in Erie, but the forecast for this weekend's series isn't bad. Tonight's opener is calling for temperatures in the upper 40s and no rain. It will be cold Friday with a high of 40, but there's only a 10 percent chance of rain. Saturday will be in the upper 40s with a 10 percent chance of rain, while Sunday could be trouble with a 30 percent chance of rain and temperatures in low 50s.

SAFE AT FIRST: The Curve's starting rotation lines up this way: RHP Brandon Cumpton tonight, RHP Casey Sadler on Friday, RHP Jameson Taillon on Saturday, RHP Stolmy Pimentel on Sunday and RHP Tyler Waldron on Monday at Akron.

STEALING SECOND: Erie's rotation is LHP Kyle Lobstein, RHP Patrick Cooper, RHP Derek Hankins and RHP Warwick Saupold.

ROUNDING THIRD: Hankins is a former Curve pitcher. He spent parts of four seasons in Altoona - 2007-10 - before spending most of the past two seasons in Triple-A with the Rangers.

HEADING HOME: The Curve play four games at Erie and three at Akron before hosting Harrisburg in the home opener Thursday.
