C-K edges B-A in rematch of ’12 D-6 finals

BELLWOOD - Winning pitcher Kiersten Coho struck out 10 batters and drove in the lone run of the game as Claysburg-Kimmel blanked Bellwood-Antis, 1-0, on Wednesday in a rematch of last year's District 6 Class A softball finals.

Mallory Cox added two hits for Claysburg (1-1).

Bellwood (3-1), which won the district title last year, got two hits from Lauren Payne, and an eight-strikeout performance from pitcher Taylor Payne.

TYRONE - Jordan Henderson had three hits and knocked in two runs, while Destiny Allen and Finnley Christine drove in two runs apiece, to spark Tyrone's 13-hit attack in a Mountain League victory over Huntingdon.

Tyrone won its first game in three starts, and squared its league record at 1-1. Sam Mansberger had three hits and drove in four runs for Huntingdon, which dropped its season opener.

Tiger juniors swept

LEWISTOWN - The Hollidaysburg Area junior high softball team opened its season by dropping a pair of five-inning games to Mifflin County, 9-1 and 19-3, in a doubleheader.

Hollidaysburg's Mikayla Focht was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI in the first game, while Katie Cappella was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Hollidaysburg in the second game.
