Luke Curtis, a Philipsburg-Osceola High School graduate, pitched five innings and allowed just two earned runs for the University of Pittsburgh baseball team in a 10-8 victory over Penn State on Thursday.

Bellwood-Antis graduate Nate Plummer picked up the win and Everett native Logan Fluke notched the save in the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown's 12-6 win over Glenville State Thursday. Central graduate Drew Ebersole had a double and a triple in the contest for UPJ.
In the second game of the doubleheader against Glenville, Hollidaysburg graduate Nate Pope tossed six scoreless innings and improved to 2-0 as UPJ won, 7-0.

Several local players have been making contributions to the Slippery Rock baseball team this season.
Tyrone graduate John Shaffer is hitting .325 with three home runs and 15 RBIs in 77 at bats. Brandon Myers, a Philipsburg native, is hitting .306 with two homers and 12 RBIs, Hollidaysburg graduate Jake Weibley is hitting .282 with three home runs and 13 RBIs, and Philipsburg-Osceola graduate Matt Curtis is hitting .250 in 60 at bats.
Tyrone's Jordan Faretta is hitting .353 in 17 at bats as a freshman, and he's picked up four RBIs.

Miranda Merilli, a Bishop Guilfoyle graduate, helped NYU Polytechnic pick up a 3-1 victory over Russell Sage College in softball. Merilli struck out 10 and gave up just one unearned run.
Merilli is 5-3 with an 0.76 ERA this season and has 45 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings pitched. She has walked just three batters the entire season.

Ally Kristofco, a Bishop Guilfoyle graduate, contributed three wins for the Wilkes tennis team in the past week.
Kristofco teamed with Ana English to win, 9-8, at No. 2 doubles against Haverford before winning her No. 2 singles match and No. 2 doubles match in a triumph over Misericordia.
